Some Type of Way...12 Year as a Slave Review

Nothing like a moment of clarity! When things make more sense than even your clearest moments. While watching "12 year as Slave", I had one of those moments. I blog because I love the written word, so this is the equivalent of dropping free mixtapes to the masses. I have so many opportunities to use the written word in so many different ways. What if that was illegal for me to write or get a job that I was qualified for and had to work for free.  I would be sick with it, I would feel some type of way. Hey what a minute that has happened! 12 year as a Slave starring, Chiwetel Ejiofor, is a film about how Solomon Northup a free man and violinist gets abducted by kidnappers in Washington D.C, and set down south via the Mississippi River on a steamboat where he gets indoctrinated to slave life then to forced to live in Louisiana to be a slave for 12 years until, Brad Pitts sends a letter to his friend in D.C. who brings his free man papers and clears the whole thing up.

That's the movie, however it all has to be seen to believe, even though I am well versed in African American history something struck a nerve when one of Solomon's master's said this, "Your an exceptional nigger but I am afraid no good will come of it". That got the tears flowing and the pain that I've ignored as a black man for most of my life as smart as I am I often wonder how the world would treat me if I was not black. While viewing the President of the United States I don't really wonder how they would view him. I know how he would be praised if he was not black. Like I said the movies made me feel some type of way. The movie should be seen by all creeds and races because you will be shocked to see how all of the ideology of slave owners and slaves still is present in society. -thegqlife
