It is Black history month and since I love all things entertainment related I wanted think back when every major network had at least one sitcom with one lead character that was African American. Let's see how many here were:
1. In Living Color
2. Martin
3. The Cosby Show
4. The Steve Harvey
5. Sister Sister
6. The Jamie Fox Show
7. Family Matters
8. Hanging with Mr. Cooper
9. Moesha
10. The Wayans Brothers
11. A Different World
12. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
13. Living Single
Okay let's fly to 2014
1. Tyler Perry's House of Payne
2. Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns
3. Are We there Yet
4. Love that Girl
Where did all the African American sitcoms go? I mean I am not one to say this or that means you should have a sitcom but if I began the list of non African Americans I would still be typing. So what happen? Will for one it seems as though Reality Television is the fix that people seek when waiting to see hilarious situations involving African Americans. I know people who love Real House Wives of Atlanta and both of the Love and Hip Hop series. These shows are basically improv shows in the vine of the aforementioned In Living Color. The difference is that people tend to take these show seriously. While I know that those shows aren't real most people don't or don't care. I miss the 1990s because it was an abundance of characters that made you laugh out loud. It was awesome and with only four sitcoms choices now it makes me harken for the 90s.
